24/3/05, Fire Engine Stolen From Fire Station.

At around 23.55 on 23rd March, a man broke into the fire station, by breaking a window in the appliance bay door.  He then stole a fire engine, one man having to jump clear as it crashed through the closed appliance bay door.  The appliance was pursued by police officers. It was followed for around 5 miles, when the vehicle crossed the busy A49 at Woofferton and crashed into a field.  The watch manager was telephoned at home at around 00.05 by fire control and informed.  Firefighters had to standby at the station all night, and all of the following day as the premises were not secure.  Firefighters, property department, senior officers and door specialists spent the day clearing up the damage and collecting a spare appliance, and re-stowing the equipment.  It is estimated that £4000 damage was caused to the fire engine, and around £10000 damage to the fire station.
