6/12/06, Tenbury hosts exercise "Morrello". Firefighters from across Herefordshire joined forces with Tenbury crews for a training exercise at Kerry Foods in Tenbury Wells last Monday. Firefighters from Tenbury Wells, Leominster, Leintwardine and Bromyard were called to a fictional fire in a large warehouse, with ten persons unaccounted for. Two fire engines from Tenbury were first on the scene, and commenced searching through the pitch darkness for any casualties that had been overcome by smoke, using breathing apparatus and guidelines. Leintwardine were next to arrive, to give backup and assist with the searching, followed closely behind by Leominster and Bromyard. Around 30 firefighters were on the scene to practice searching procedures using guidelines and branchlines. All ten dummy casualties were located and "rescued" by being carried through the warehouse, down ladders and stairs to safety by firefighters. The exercise commenced at around 7.30pm, and was closed at around 9pm.

The J reg Dennis SS will be moved into the reserve fleet, modernising the spare appliances. 30/9/06, Looking after one of the lads... Long serving FF's Shaun Drinkwater and John Davies have paid a touching tribute to a late fireman, Tom Holden, who served at Tenbury during the 1920's and 30's. Tenbury station was contacted by family member, Christine Tipton, who originally asked for our help. Sub Officer Dave James said "As soon as we heard, we were only too happy to help". "He was one of the lads - albeit from years ago - Shaun and John did a sterling job. The brigade is like a family, and we tend to look after each other".
Mrs Tipton said she was delighted that the firefighters could help. "The firefighters said they would be happy to repair the gravestone as a mark of respect to an old fireman who gave long service to the town. The repairs were paid for out of their own pockets and I have great respect for them all." Tom Holden is buried in St Mary's churchyard in Tenbury.

8/7/06, Smoke House in Tenbury. A Tenbury Fete was the first in the two counties to have the use of a new £25,000 portable smoke house. The inflatable structure was at Tenbury High School Fete yesterday, and was used to teach adults and children the importance of smoke detectors, and the dangers of smoke. Groups went inside the "house" and watched it fill with smoke. They were then taught how to escape from a smoke filled building. Images are on our picture gallery page.
6/7/06, Firefighters awarded medals. Firefighters John Higgins and Shaun Drinkwater, who both joined the service at the same time, 20 years ago, have been awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct (LSGC) medal. They went to Service Headquarters to a ceremony to receive their awards. Sub Officer David James said "they are both hardworking firefighters, who are a credit to the station. The information that they hold is very useful to younger firefighters." Our congratulations go out to them both.
