Pay
Explained: A competent firefighter, giving full cover,
receives £2820.83 per year for being on-call and available (the
retaining fee). A firefighter giving part cover will receive 75%
of the retaining fee.
For
attending a 1 hour fire call, they will receive £12.88 + disturbance
fee of £3.70 = £16.58. For a 2 hour fire call, they will receive (2 x
£12.88) + disturbance fee = £29.46 and so on. This is known as a
"Turnout" payment.
If
a firefighter responds to the fire station to attend a fire call, but is
not required to form part of the crew (eg, enough firefighter's arrived and they
were surplus) the firefighter will receive a disturbance fee and 30 minutes pay.
This is known as an "Attendance" payment.
Payment
for training is at hourly rate.
Competency
is normally achieved in approximately 3 years.
